December 21st, 2018

Happy Holidays everyone! My name is Stephanie Hamilton and I am the Media & Marketing Specialist with My School Dance. The holidays always seem to arrive way too quickly and you never have enough time to fit all of your festive activities in. That’s why I wanted to list some of my favorite last minute festivities that you can do before December is over with your friends and family!

  • Go See Your Town’s Christmas TreeThere’s something magical about standing out in the cold gazing at a huge decorated Christmas tree with the people you love.
  • Donate A ToyMany charities are still accepting gifts and donations to families in need this holiday season.
  • Read A Christmas BookSome of my favorites are ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas or A Christmas Carol.
  • Go Christmas Caroling Walk around your neighborhood and sing multiple Christmas songs to your neighbors to get everyone in the holiday spirit.
  • Watch A Holiday MovieThere are so many great, family friendly movies on this time of year. Pick out your favorite one, make some hot chocolate, and grab your family so you can enjoy it together.

My School Dance wants you all to put down your phones and enjoy a few days with your friends and family. Interact with each other and get to know one another. On these last few days before Christmas, make it a point to do one of these activities. The majority of these activities don’t cost a lot of money, if any money. They are simple, yet enjoyable things to do with the people you love. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Teacher Must Do’s Over Christmas Break!

Friday, 14 December, 2018

December 14th, 2018

Hello everyone! My name is Stephanie Hamilton and I am the Media & Marketing Specialist with My School Dance. Winter break at schools is quickly approaching. I know the kids are super excited, but you know who’s even more excited? The teachers! Winter break is the perfect time for teachers to relax and get a well deserved break. Therefore, I wanted to come up with a few ideas for teachers to do over Christmas break!

  • Self CareThis is one of the most important ones. Teachers need to unwind and relax for a little bit. Go get a massage, read a book, exercise, sleep in, and go see a movie. It’s important to take some time for yourself and relax.
  • Family timeWhile you get a few weeks off, enjoy spending time with your family. Go out to a nice dinner, make cookies together, go see a musical, or go to a festival. Whatever you do, make time to see your family and spend some quality time with them.
  • VacationGo on a week long vacation. It’s nice to get out and have a different scenery to look at every once in awhile. I suggest going on a vacation where you’re able to just relax, like on a beach. This way you won’t be running around all over the place and will get to chill out for a little bit.
  • WorkIf you absolutely have to catch up on work, dedicate one or two days where you can go to a coffee shop or somewhere quiet and get grading done. You don’t want to spend your entire break doing work.
  • CraftingFor some of my creative teachers out there that love to craft and make things, check out Pinterest. They have so many cute and fun DIY activities that you can do by yourself or with friends and family.

Unwinding and enjoying your Winter break is crucial. My School Dance understands that teachers are constantly busy and have so much to do. That’s why we strongly encourage you to make the most of your days off and actually relax and do everything you can’t do while you’re teaching. Especially since when the new year comes many schools have a lot of events and activities that take place. My School Dance is here to help teachers make any of these ticketed events easier on the teachers. To learn more about My School Dance visit our website or our social media sites below.

7 Classroom Activities for this Holiday Season!

Friday, 7 December, 2018

December 7th, 2018

Happy December everyone! I don’t know about you, but I’m super excited it’s finally the holiday season! If you don’t know me already, I’m Stephanie Hamilton and I am the Media & Marketing Specialist with My School Dance. Now that it’s finally December, I think it’s important to come up with some festive classroom activities for our students to get them in the holiday spirit. Below I listed some of my favorite activities that you can have your students do:

  • Give BackAs a classroom, choose a charity or an organization that you can give back to this holiday season. There are so many families in need of basic supplies this Christmas and would greatly appreciate if your class donated food, clothing, gifts, etc. This is a great way to teach your students that Christmas isn’t always about receiving.
  • Christmas Random Acts of KindnessMake one of your assignments where the students have to choose one person in the school whether it be a teacher, a classmate, or a faculty member and they have to do something nice for that person. The student will not only feel good about themselves, but they also will make someone else’s day.
  • Star TreeDraw the outline of a Christmas tree on your wall or on a poster. Hand out cut out stars to all your students and have them write their Christmas wish on their star. Then fill in the tree with all of the stars to create your classroom’s Christmas star tree.
  • Christmas Around the WorldRandomly separate your students into groups and have them research another country and find out their holiday traditions, facts, and history. Have them present their research to the class and make one of the “traditional” foods from that country to share with everyone.
  • Holiday JournalFor my English teachers out there, have students write everyday in their journal for 15 minutes about a specific topic. You could have them do, “What does Christmas mean to me?” or “Best Christmas Experience.” Just any fun, festive topic to get them in the holiday spirit.
  • Holiday CardsHand out plain Christmas cards to each student in the room and have them write a card to their family or loved ones. It’s a great way to get the students in the mood and to give something special back to their family.
  • Christmas DanceHost a holiday dance for your students. This could be a Christmas theme with all holiday decorations. You can have it be a more casual dance or even make it a formal one. My School Dance can help with the planning and managing process so it’s not a hassle to accomplish! Plus, you can check out My School Dance’s Pinterest Page for some dance planning tips and ideas.

My School Dance is always trying to encourage teachers to get the students working together with more face-to-face interaction especially for the holiday season. Make sure to stay tuned next week for some festive holiday field trip ideas.
